American Taliban

No, I'm not talking about John Walker Lindh, the doofus from California that was captured fighting for the Taliban. I'm referring to the fundamentalist Christian tyrants in the U.S. They resent such comparisons, but that is because they are too ignorant to see the irony of their actions and that they are behaving exactly like Muslim fundamentalists in other countries. Let's take a look at what they want:
A theological government.
A judicial/legal system whose laws and decisions are based on their interpretation of the bible, and their morals.
Restricted rights or outright punishment and persecution for anyone that doesn't believe as they do.
Removal of the separation of church and state (as long as their church is running the state).
Outright war with other countries that they see as insufficiently Christian.
How is this any different than the Taliban or the Mullahs in Iran? It's no different.
This whole issue has come to the fore again recently because of the idiotic ranting of Pat Robertson. Of course he is only one of the many American mullahs advocating this sort of violent, jingoistic behavior. It fits nicely with Jerry Falwell and his advocacy that we seek out our enemies and "slaughter them in the name of our Lord." Because of course that is what Jesus would want. The right's wet dream, Ann Coulter, said something similar: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."
I may not be a theologian, but I seem to remember in the Bible that Jesus advocated love and forgiveness for everyone, even those that oppose you.
Today I stumbled across a web site that chronicles the ranting of these ignorant xenophobes.
And then there is "Justice Sunday" (click the Prayback Time link), where the mullahs pray for bullet point two, above.
